2013’s Mantra, I Am You And You Are Me

We are the same

To some my title sentence makes no sense. To some, literally is how they live and see life. To some the beauty and intricacies of relationships are not something to ponder and appreciate, but to take simply at face value. But to me I am all you have and you are all I have, because if I am not valuing you, accepting you and appreciating you then what do I have? Nothing. I am not prosperous, because without you how can I share my wealth of life’s lessons learned. I am not growing, because without you how will I challenge myself, better myself and live up to my potential. I am not loved, because without you who will I give love to, so I too can feel it’s incredible warmth in return?

So, what I do for you, I do for me and what I don’t do for you, I don’t do for me. The sooner we accept that we are all connected through our shared humanity, the sooner we can get to the business of showing each other the unconditional love that Jesus spoke about and Muhammad and every pivotal person intent on connecting us through love in the history of the world. In 2013 our mindset has to be elevated exponentially. While some of us have accepted and are now committed to helping others, we must no longer look at it as helping them, but accept that our positive actions are done for the good of us all.

Where do we go from there? What have we come to? We have come right back where we started and we are now called to be compassionate. If we look at all the world’s ills, how many can be helped if we just exercise a little compassion? I feel certain at the least, we will get the attention we feel we deserve, something that many feel they do not get and has caused much malaise in this world. When you realize I am you and you are me, then you accept without hesitation, that compassion for others is needed in life just as you want it for yourself. Compassion for every thing that is living, not just humans is key to our world surviving and continuing without humanity perishing.

The whole is always greater than the sum of the parts.

Let our compassion be coupled with wisdom, so that when we set out to help with the myriad of causes out there, we are able not to get caught up in help that puts us in a reactive mode. Let us take time and think things through so we can be in active mode. I have been blessed to be introduced to some incredible ladies in two groups this year, Shades of Social Media and Pushing Lovely. I have found some like minded individuals that are keen on promoting love, peace and compassion into this world. This provides an ideal opportunity for us to team up and support this movement and create a synergy that will be greater than any one person can accomplish. The whole is always greater than the sum of the parts it is said, and I tend to agree. I hope you will join the movement and know that you too can do good wherever you are, even in your little corner of the world.

Reading this blog re-affirms my passion, my desire for the healing of Mother Earth by a renewed consciousness by humanity to the plight that it has brought upon itself by our inherent greed, envy and selfishness, whether it be in the adoption of destructive political ideology, misguided religious values, or improper and wealth driven environmental practices that ultimately results in the sustained destruction of both our marine and terrestrial ecosystem.
As a consequence, humanity’s greed and selfishness results in our eventual extinction! Man is his own worst enemy! A total deficiency of love, respect, admiration and self worth hence perpetuating the imbalance and eventual catastrophie of cataclyzmic proportions.

Until humanity comes to an enlightened consciousness with a fervent desire for the restoration of hundreds of years of destruction we are doomed to self destruction.

    • Your last paragraph is beautiful. We have to look at how we got here so we can understand how to fix it. Case in point. When the media became a forceful object in our lives we were in the education era. It was all about educating ourselves. Then we moved to the information era. Get information out there as much as possible. I think it is clear now that we have embarked on a new era and I believe it to be the wisdom era. All that we have been taught and discovered and learned is now ripe for us to put to use. For example, we now know what it takes to make styrofoam and that those ingredients are not biodegradable and even more so where it ends up and how it affects us, the environment and the earth. This knowledge has caused us to make different choices. And so this is seen in many other areas of life.

Wonderful post! I truly believe so much can be better if we remember this fundamental truth and not only with our fellow humans but with nature, animals and every other living being. It takes time to learn this lesson. Honestly, I am still learning it myself but it is definitely worth the time and effort to master. Thanks for writing such a great post. God bless you 🙂

    • Thank you jolynproject so much for reading and commenting on this blog. I like you am finding my way with this theme as my guide. It is not easy as it kind of goes against most things we have been taught in recent years. When I hear my parents talk about their growing up it was more like this. They had little and appreciated this mantra and lived by it. We need to take a step back to that if we are going to make it in the future.

You can call me Jolyn. lol And you are so right. We got to get back to the basics. It’s hard with all the technology but we can have that and live simpler. It’s always a matter of balance.

YES! This is such a simple concept but not many people get it. It’s like a lot of people live life thinking they can do so alone and get over on people, do terrible things to other, and don’t realize that it affects them negatively as well.

Sheesh…I need to give you a bullhorn so you can cram this message in people’s head loud and clear! 🙂

  4. i agree. my thoughts have always been: when you’re my friend, you’re one of me. if your hungry and i have food, i give you some. if i have money, you have money. None of mine will go without as long as i can help it.

although Hillary C gets a lot of flack, her famous catch phrase “it takes a village” resonates with me. we are all in this together.

  6. I like the idea of a world of interconnected people who are aware of the connections and act as if it is in their best interest to treat others with compassion and care.

  7. I love this — very beautiful!! I agree that we all as a world need to remove the focus off solely ourselves and shift our hearts, minds and actions to a more universal unity. Only when we view ourselves and our actions in that way can real positive change happen towards a more peaceful world. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Heather H. says:

The whole is always greater than the sum of the parts….that sums up a conversation I had with a friend this morning, stating that we can help each other reach our professional goals in 2013 faster together than on our own.

    • Not only can we get there faster, but it will be a more solid success and it will be far reaching! Thank you for your comment Heather, it is nice to know we are on the same wavelength.

  9. djrelat7 says:

I agree with Chachanna; Caroll this is beautiful! We are meant to live by this mantra. I am not sure where and when it happened but along the way somewhere a long time ago, this concept was lost. Although if you look around we may be surprised how any of us actually do live our day to day believe that “I am you and you are me!”

    • I believe that the Industrial Revolution started the decline of this value. With more physical freedoms we grow less committed to each other’s well being and definitely with the fact that we have more access to making money. Changing this mindset is a huge job, but if we will survive we must do so. Thank you for your comments Djrelat7!

      Peace & Light

  10. What a beautiful post! It’s to true that we are all one but when we get upset, angry or start blaming we, including me, never remember that. When one does well, we all do well so there is no need to be jealous. And when one does wrong, we all do wrong and there is no room for blaming but healing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    • Thank ChaChanna! It is my challenge to have more patience and focus on this. In history, when civilizations have thrived is when there was concern for your neighbor as yourself. We must move back to that ideal because it really is the ideal. Thanks for sharing!
