Since I started navigating the waters of business, I have taken every opportunity to educate myself on techniques that will improve my efficiency, know how and of course build my clientele. However, there are certain things that I have always maintained that I will do in my business, they are really the core of my business values, and I honestly did not need to learn these values in fact I am always pleasantly surprised when I see coaches, professionals and the like tout these principles as a solid way of doing business. My number one value for my business is LOYALTY. Loyalty to my clients, and loyalty to my vendors. This to me is crucial. Second on the list is being a woman of my word. If I promise you something I will make every attempt to do it. If I cannot get it done, I will tell you and I will help you find a suitable substitute. This has been core to my business and one of the main feedback my client’s give me when referring me. So, it may not be a surprise to you that I have little give when it comes to dealing with people who take these principles as loose suggestions.
FLAKES as I will call them are every where and in every aspect of life. So far this year, I have had my run in with a fair share of them. Is this what our world has resorted to? People promising one thing to get something and once they get it they do not feel any need to keep their end of the deal? No shame, no guilt nothing? Someone told me I was being naive and that is the way business is done in today’s world. REALLY! As my friends from New York would say, “getouttahere!” Business used to be made with a firm handshake and a smile. Then it became necessary to document business transactions, so contracts came into play, but still you both agree and you both sign. Today, as we navigate some of the worst economic times we have seen, when I would have thought we would bond together and make solid deals so we can help each other, we are only making “get overs”, get over with what I need and forget the deal. Know this Mr. and Ms. Flake, you are not business savvy when you do this, and today is yours but tomorrow may very well be mine as there really is such a thing as Karma. The universe demand that things be done in accordance to the energy that was put into them when first created. We pray on deals, we ask God for his guidance, we even say God will help us if we do this deal. So how do you know turn around and flake? This is so unprofessional and I can guarantee you in the long run it is like building your house on sand, it will all come crashing down believe that. In business there are codes of ethics that we need to adhere too. When you build a business with that type of reputation you can better believe that leaving a trail of jilted business associates in your path will someday have it’s due. We may like to think, this is business and all is fair in business right, wrong! Business is done by human beings and the energy we depart is the energy that will come back.
Now, to the flakes who are flakey in your personal life, oh you don’t get a pass. They believe it is ok to toy with emotions and make empty promises knowing fully well they have no intentions of keeping any of them. They are even more clueless than the business flake. The mere fact that they are dealing with in many situations people who have come to trust them on a personal and emotional level is what makes this truly hurtful. Again, is this world coming to the point where only our needs matter? I know someone who is flakey on both business and personal. They are like a rudderless boat, and paranoid that everyone is out to get them if given half the chance. Yet they see no correlation with their output of energy and the one they receive in return. They hoard their money like a true miser. They make promises and renig. The worst part is they are not a stranger, they are supposed to be a friend. I feel sorry for them cause they honestly turn a blind eye to their behavior and actually become defensive about it. They have few close friends, so it makes them horde money even more. Now even their connections with people must show promise of a positive financial gain. Sad!
To all the flakes out there and you know who you are, consider this at the end of the day, in whatever century and whatever geographic location, what has always been true and will always be true and is the divine order of the universe and definitely pleasing to God is, THE TRUE CHARACTER OF A MAN/WOMAN IS TO KEEP HIS/HER WORD. GOOD MORAL CHARACTER MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND. If you still don’t believe that remember flakes get crunched, soggy and are eventually all wet! Peace!
